Donald Trump Delays Meeting With Russian President Vladimir Putin

The two leaders will now meet at the G-20 summit later this month

President Donald Trump on Monday said that he might not be able to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin when he travels to Paris for the Armistice Day 100th anniversary later this week. The meeting is being delayed, possibly until later in the month when both the world leaders are expected to attend the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

“We’ll have plenty of meetings, but I’m not sure we’ll have a meeting in Paris – probably not,” Trump said before heading to Ohio, Indiana and Missouri for political rallies to promote Tuesday’s midterm elections, reported NYTimes.

However, he is hopeful to meet Putin at the , which is scheduled to take place in Argentina on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

“Well, we haven’t set anything up yet,” the Us President said adding, “We don’t know that that’s going to be the right place. I’m going to be in Paris for other reasons. But we will be meeting at the G-20. And probably we’ll have meetings after that — probably plenty of meetings.”

Trump said he hopes that getting along with Russia, China, and all other countries will be a good thing.

The upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin will be their first since the controversial Helsinki summit in July, after which the US President was criticized for his friendly behavior toward Putin and for casting doubt over the conclusions of U.S. intelligence officials who said Russia interfered in the 2016 election to benefit him. Trump, however, later took back the statements, saying he misspoke.

The two leaders are expected to discuss several issues, including Trump’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty at their next meeting. Trump is also expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping to talk on the ongoing trade issues between the US and China.
