ANC deputy president David Mabuza is expected to be sworn in as a Member of Parliament on Tuesday afternoon. His swearing-in follows his meeting with the commission on Friday.
According to Business Live, ANC chief Pemmy Majodina confirmed that Mabuza would be sworn-in at the presidential guesthouse at 4 pm on Tuesday. He will be sworn in by chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.
Last week, Mabuza postponed his swearing as he wanted to first address the ANC’s integrity commission and clear his name. The commission flagged off Mabuza and 20 other party members when it reviewed the ANC’s candidate list for the National Assembly. The party members were accused of having prejudiced the integrity of the ANC.
Cyril Ramaphosa was sworn in as the President in Pretoria on Saturday after being elected president at the first sitting of the sixth parliament on Wednesday. The party won 57.5 percent of the vote on May 8. It’s ANC’s worst result since apartheid was overturned 25 years ago.
It was expected that Ramaphosa would announce his cabinet at the beginning of the new week. But the presidency confirmed on Sunday that the announcement would be made later in the week. It did not give a certain date for the announcement.
This time, Ramaphosa is expected to announce a smaller, reconfigured cabinet. It was expected that the President would first announce the structure of the cabinet before announcing names of the appointees. However, it has emerged that he will make both announcements at the same time.
