Donald Trump Had A Good Phone Conversation With Chinese President Xi Jinping

The United States President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping reportedly had a very good and positive phone discussion on Thursday. The crucial phone call follows the ongoing trade war between the world’s two biggest economies.

The US President revealed on Twitter that he talked with Jinping on many subjects, with a heavy emphasis on Trade. He added that discussions over the trade conflict between the two countries are moving along nicely and will continue at the G20 summit at the end of this month. Notably, the Presidents of the US and China are expected to have a meeting at the G20 summit, which is scheduled to be held from November 30 to December 1 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Trump also revealed that he and Xi also discussed North Korea.

Meanwhile, talking about the phone call, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that he hopes China and the United States will be able to promote a steady and healthy relationship. Xi also said he and Trump are willing to expand bilateral trade cooperation.

“The two countries’ trade teams should strengthen contact and conduct consultations on issues of concern to both sides, and promote a plan that both can accept to reach a consensus on the China-US trade issue,” Xi said.

According to a Bloomberg report, citing four people familiar with the matter, President Trump wants to reach a trade agreement with China at the G20 meeting and has asked key U.S. officials to begin drafting potential terms of the agreement.

Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow said there was a very positive tone between the two leaders.

“It’s always better to talk than not to talk,” Kudlow said.

Notably, both the countries already have imposed tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars of each other’s goods. Trump has even threatened to slap tariffs on the remainder of China’s $500 billion-plus exports to the US if a trade deal doesn’t get finalized.
