DRC President Felix Tshisekedi Gets Full Support From Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta
President Kenyatta said his government will continue to help DRC to achieve a state of stability
Felix Tshisekedi, the newly elected president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Wednesday, met with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta who expressed his country’s commitment to political stability in DRC. Tshisekedi is currently on his maiden Presidential tour of three Africa countries. He has already been to Angola and will end the tour in Congo Brazzaville.
During the meeting, President Kenyatta told Tshisekedi that his government will continue to help DRC to achieve a state of stability as Kenya has learned valuable lessons after it faced similar political tensions in the past, which the country is willing to share with the Great Lakes nation.
“We will continue to help you achieve peace and stability because we have had similar experience which we can share,” Kenyatta said, reported Africa News.
He offered to provide training opportunities to Congolese policymakers in Kenya’s training institutions such as the Kenya School of Government to sharpen their skills which would ultimately help them in formulating good policies to ensure the country achieves its development goals and deliver quality services to its people.
“We are ready to partner in building infrastructure, sharing skills in extractive industry and in many other areas of mutual benefit,” the Kenyan President said.
Kenyatta also called for the deepening of trade ties strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
“Thank you for coming and we are looking forward to strengthening the partnership between our two countries for the benefit of our citizens,” said President Uhuru.
President Tshisekedi went on to thank Mr. Kenyatta for being a true friend of DRC as demonstrated by his visit to the country to attend the Congolese leader’s inauguration ceremony.
Tshisekedi was named as the DRC’s new President after the December polls which marked the first-ever peaceful transfer of power since independence from Belgium in 1960.
