Huawei Agrees To Promote Tunisia’s Digital Economy & ICT Talent

Huawei has reportedly agreed to strengthen cooperation with Tunisia for promotion of talent in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT), the development of the digital economy and public security.

Mr. Xue Man, Huawei Vice President of Public Relations, recently met with Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi to exchange views on ways to better promote the digital transformation of Tunisian industry.

The tech giant’s officials met with the Tunisian Prime Minister last year in July, which made it possible to deepen cooperation in the digital economy and in promoting local talent in the ICT sector.

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi expressed his gratitude to Huawei for the company’s continued contributions to Tunisia over the last 20 years. He reaffirmed Tunisia is looking forward to more investment from Huawei. Tunisia aims to promote social and economic development and employment through the development of ICTs and make the country a model of regional center for digitization and incubator of talents in ICT.

Mr. Xue Man said that Huawei is actively involved in the national strategy “Digital Tunisia 2020” and contributed to the digital transition of various industries in Tunisia. He reassured that the company will help Tunisia promote digital transformation, create employment opportunities and strengthen Tunisian talent education and training in ICT.

Huawei has had its presence in Tunisia since 1999 and 2019 marks its 20th anniversary. Over the years, Huawei has trained more than 1,000 ICT professionals in Tunisia. The proportion of local employees in Huawei Tunisia is over 90 percent. The tech company has established a regional francophone talent center and a regional resource center in Tunisia.

Huawei has launched “Seeds for the Future” and “Huawei ICT Academy” programs, summer internships and ICT skills competitions, to promote Tunisia as a regional center for ICT talent. The company adheres to the concept of “openness, cooperation and win-win” and follows the “platform + ecosystem” cooperation model. It is committed to building partnerships with local Tunisian companies for mutual growth and to explore together potential markets in other countries.
