MTN Updates Contract Subscription Prices
Mobile operator, MTN, has announced it is going to update its subscription prices with effect from May 1, 2019. The price hikes will affect contract customers.
“In the past few years, MTN has worked to avoid increases to its subscription pricing – however, sustained inflationary pressures and increased input costs have meant price adjustments have become unavoidable,” said MTN, reported MyBroadband. “There will be an increase of approximately 4% and in some instances it will be slightly more, to align to market-related pricing.”
In addition, MTN will also hike itemised billing and caller line identity (CLI) subscription fees by 4 percent. The company confimred that select My MTNChoice Flexi price plans inclusive contract value will also change to align to the new subscription price from June 1, 2019.
MTN said that it has invested heavily in its network to offer the speeds and coverage expected by its customers.
In related news, MTN has revealed it will enable VoLTE on certain iPhones from April 1, 2019. The mobile network launched VoLTE support in South Africa in September 2018, but limited the use of this technology to select smartphones. Apple iPhones will now be added to the list of smartphones that can use VoLTE. It remains unclear which iPhone models will be able to use VoLTE to make calls.
MTN Group recently published its Integrated Report for the year ended 31 December 2018, detailing what the company’s top executives earned in the last financial year.
MTN Group CEO Rob Shuter earned R42.92 million in 2018, including a basic salary of R15.28 million and bonuses and other benefits exceeding R26 million.
Ralph Mupita, Group CFO, earned R8.2 million and a bonus of R12.7 million for the year. MTN SA chief executive Godfrey Motsa was one of the top-paid employees who earned a R6.8-million salary, a R5.6-million bonus, and R10.1 million in other benefits.
