New Abuja International Terminal Begins Flight Operations
Asky Airlines aircraft with 91 persons onboard was first to land at the new terminal
Abuja, the new international terminal at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, has officially opened for flight operations with Asky Airlines leading the way.
The Asky Airlines aircraft a B737-700 with registration number ET-AVP was the first aircraft to land on the new terminal. With 91 persons onboard including 85 passengers and six crew members, the aircraft landed at about 3:30pm local from Lome on the new terminal was recently commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Commenting on commencement of operations at Abuja terminal, Mr. Saleh Dunoma, the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said the new terminal had been positioned to meet passengers’ expectations.
Dunoma said he is expecting other international airlines to begin operations at the new terminal pretty soon.
“You cannot compare this terminal and the old one because if you are looking for safety, passenger facilitation and comfort this is the place,” Dunoma added, reported Vanguard.
Mr. Sani Mahmud, the Regional General Manager, North Central, FAAN/Airport Manager, NAIA, said the landing of Asky Airlines aircraft from Lome was successful and hitch-free. He gave the assurance that all the facilities in the terminal had been tested and certified to handle all international flights, adding that the commencement of operation by Asky was a confirmation. He said the terminal also offers free WiFi and trolleys for the passengers.
“We thank God for making it possible that today, we were able to commence flight operations in the new terminal of the NAIA that was commissioned on Dec. 20, 2018, by President Muhammadu Buhari,” Mahmud said. “We sincerely appreciate all the stakeholders that made this possible and as you can see, all the agencies are on the ground for international operations.”
“We want to assure Nigerian and the world that this terminal will be maintained beautifully because we have a very good strong team in this airport” he added.
