Russia will reportedly send up to 30 military personnel to the Central African Republic as part of a United Nations mission that aims to help stabilize the country.
According to a decree signed by President Vladimir Putin on Monday, the President has instructed the Russian Foreign Ministry as well as the Russian Defense Ministry to inform the UN Secretariat about Russia’s decision to send up to 30 Russian servicemen to the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), reported Reuters.
The decree said the Russian contingent to the Central African Republic would include military observers, staff officers, and military communications specialists. Notably, Moscow has already sent military equipment to CAR and Russian instructors are on the ground helping train the country’s armed forces.
The document also called out the Russian Foreign Ministry to inform the UN Secretariat of “Russia’s readiness to send up to 5 servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces to the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.”
