Sony To Launch Limited Edition PS4 Pro To Mark 500 Million PlayStation Milestone

Sony's sleek special edition PS4 Pro will be put on sale starting August 24

Sony’s has reportedly sold over 500 million PlayStation consoles since the first model launched in 1994. To commemorate the milestone, the tech giant is planning to roll out a sleek special edition PS4 Pro. The news was announced in an official blog post by PlayStation worldwide marketing senior vice president Eric Lempel.

The limited edition PS4 Pro will get a translucent dark blue colored console body, a DualShock 4 wireless controller, PlayStation camera, vertical stand and mono headset. It will also come with a massive 2TB hard drive to enable gamers to store their favorite games, apps, videos, screenshots and more. In addition, the console will have a copper plate on its front etched with its limited edition serial number.

Some lucky buyers will get extra special hardware units with serial numbers that commemorate important events in PlayStation history like 09995 which is the U.S. launch date of the original PlayStation- September 9, 1995, 01115 which is the U.S. launch date of PS4- November 15, 2013 and 01013 which is the U.S. launch date of PS VR -October 13, 2016.

A 500 Million Limited Edition Gold Wireless Headset featuring the same dark blue translucent design with copper detailing, will also be sold separately for $99.99 USD (MSRP) / $119.99 CAD (MSRP).

According to the official Sony page, the PlayStation4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition console will be available starting August 24. The gaming console will sell for $499 USD. Name of the participating retailers is expected to get listed soon on the PS.com page.

In related news, The NPD Group’s head gaming industry analyst Mat Piscatella has predicted that Nintendo Switch will likely be 2018’s best-selling console. Notably, the PlayStation 4 has been the top-selling console of 2018 thus far. The release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! is expected to propel Nintendo’s machine into the top spot by the end of the year.
