Apple iPad Pro 2018 Likely To Feature A Smart Connector

Apple is expected to launch two new iPad Pro models this year

Apple fans desperately wait for September every year for the launch of new Apple devices be it iPhone, MacBook Pro, iMac or iPad Pro. Well, this year is no different as the Cupertino based company is expected to launch its slew of new devices next month.

A lot of rumors about the new devices have already flooded the web. Talking about Apple iPad Pro 2018, the iPhone maker is expected to launch two new iPad Pro models later this year, both of them sporting a revamped design inspired by the iPhone X. In terms of specs, the 2018 Apple iPad Pros are expected to feature an all-screen design, slimmer bezels than their predecessors and support Face ID authentication, which will replace the iconic home button.

A new leak suggests that the upcoming iOS tablets will come with a mysterious feature. An alleged leaked picture of a protective case for the new iPad (via SlashLeaks) shows a strange opening towards the bottom of the tablet, on the other side where the home button would be placed.

While the purpose of the opening isn’t clear at the moment, it is speculated that the iPad Pro will feature a Smart Connector where that bottom cutout is placed.  The Smart Connector will likely enable users to dock the tablet in portrait mode rather than landscape.

It is also possible that the rear-facing opening would be to deliver Touch ID functionality. Apple, however, has never placed a fingerprint sensor on the back of devices. But a rear-facing fingerprint sensor on a tablet would make sense if Face ID only works in portrait mode.

For the time being, we advise our readers to take this intriguing leak with a big grain of salt until we know more details.

As far as Apple iPad Pro 2018 release date is concerned, all signs point to an early September launch alongside new iPhones.
